February 2013 Archives

This has the makings of being an interesting upcoming documentary, one which recently successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign raising over $112,000. It's now in post-production and hopefully will make it to screens in late 2013 or early 2014 (which to me means, we hope to get into Telluride or Toronto or Sundance).

For decades I was a regular viewer of nature documentaries on television and also in theatres, but since probably 2000, it's all been too depressing. This trailer is no exception. It is sad as hell. Bits of plastic bottles, bottle caps, combs, lego pieces, all sorts of plastic flotsam and jetsam, are winding up in the Pacific Gyre and ultimately in the stomachs of animals like the birds in this documentary. And the animals are dying.

But this looks to be a worthwhile documentary despite its sad story. We made the world this way. We might as well face up to it and maybe do something about it.
